Thompson, M1A1, Savage 1943. This particular Thompson was re-imported into the U.S. by Cadmus Industries, probably during the 1950’s, and Cadmus is listed as the manufacturer on the ATF form.
Savage M1A1 Thompson Serial Number 766089
We have the following transferable Savage manufactured M1A1 Thompson Submachine Gun, serial number 766089 available for sale. It was likely manufactured in very late 1943.
The weapon has been refinished, and features the later style, protected rear sight, and a fixed firing pin M1A1 bolt, and has the later style buttstock with reinforcing crossbolt. The receiver shows signs of a barrel replacement utilizing tools that left several scars on the nose. The barrel itself at one point had some corrosion on its surface, which was refinished over. It is “U.S. Property” marked on the rear top of receiver behind the rear sight, marked in 2 lines, which is a Savage characteristic. It features a Savage marked horizontal foregrip.
The weapon features the Auto-Ordnance acceptance stamp of “GEG” for George E. Goll. George E. Goll was the longest serving employee of Auto-Ordnance, beginning as General Thompson’s chauffeur, and he ended up becoming the President of the Auto-Ordnance Division of Maguire Industries during WWII. The wood on this Thompson shows honest wear for an 80-year old military Thompson submachine gun. It comes with one 30-round magazine.
